The volunteer home is located in Kabembe Trading Centre, which is 30 kilometers from the capital city Kampala and 9 kilometers from Mukono.
The accommodation is excellent by Ugandan standards, but volunteers need to be aware that this may be different from what they are used to.
Each volunteer will most likely have a room to himself/herself, but in case of a large volunteer group, rooms may be shared between two.
Each volunteer will be provided with clean bedding on top of a mosquito net.
The residential house for volunteers is equipped with solar powered energy and has a water tank that is filled with water all the time.
The up and down movement to and from the house will be done on foot, motorcycle or taxi, depending on the distance to be covered and the desire of the volunteering team.
Volunteers will commute with BACOP staff to surrounding villages in order to complete the voluntary duties.
Food
Breakfast will be served at 8:30 am, lunch at 1:00pm and dinner after 8:00pm. Breakfast usually consists bread and tea.
Lunch, and supper will be served in BACOP house and meals will consist of local recipes like matooke (mashed plantain), posho (corn meal flour) etc. The above foods are served with beef, peas, beans or groundnut sauce.
Other recipes can be requested for and served as wished.
Communication
The easiest way to stay connected during your stay in Uganda is to bring an unlocked smartphone and purchase a local sim card upon arrival. Monthly airtime and data packages are relatively cheap and easy to get. If you do not have an unlocked phone, you can purchase a local phone through the two main carriers in Uganda- Airtel and MTN.
In case of poor internet connectivity though, volunteers can access better internet services in the neighbouring Mukono town which is 8-minute drive away.
