As a volunteer with BACOP, you will have the opportunity to work in our partner school, Kabembe Parents’ School. Here you will be able to assist the local teachers in teaching English lessons, as well as running your own classroom if you wish.

Even if you do not have teaching experience, the students will be eager to learn anything you have to offer them. You will have a chance to work with students aged 3-12 years old for your first few days until you decide which age group you prefer. Students at Kabembe Parents’ School are very disciplined and welcoming, as are the teachers and staff.

Students might be shy at first, but you will catch them smiling at you, eager to interact with you and learn about your country. They are also very willing to teach you about the Buganda culture and help you learn a few words/phrases in Luganda. Teaching at our school is a great way to exchange cultures and help the students learn more about other parts of the world!

Not only will you have the opportunity to teach the students, but you will also be involved with the ongoing projects at the school. These projects could include helping make bricks for the school’s expansion, constructing makeshift walls to be placed between classrooms, as well as team-building exercises.
