For many children growing up in the Mehta Camps, opportunities to pursue their dreams are limited by poverty and social inequality. Yet through the power of sport, Balamu Community Outreach Program (BACOP) is proving that talent, when nurtured with education, mentorship, and opportunity, can overcome even the greatest barriers. Since its founding, BACOP has used sport as a development tool to address social, educational, and community challenges while empowering vulnerable children and young people across Uganda.

This vision came to life during the CAF U-15 Qualifiers, held from 8–19 July 2026, where only the top 12 youth football teams in Uganda earned the chance to compete. Drawn into one of the tournament’s most competitive groups alongside one of last year’s CAF U-15 runners-up, BACOP’s young team entered the competition as underdogs.

What followed was an inspiring display of courage, discipline, and determination. The boys produced outstanding performances that surprised football fans, coaches, and tournament observers alike. They demonstrated exceptional teamwork, resilience, and technical ability, proving they had come not simply to participate but to compete.

Their remarkable journey saw them advance to the quarterfinals, an achievement that reflects the effectiveness of BACOP’s Football for Development model. Every match showcased the impact of investing in children from vulnerable communities and providing them with structured coaching, education, and life skills.

Beyond football, Balamu Community Outreach Program is committed to creating lasting social change. Through its Sport for Development approach, BACOP integrates football with quality education, child protection, health awareness, leadership development, and life-skills training. The organization also promotes Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by creating opportunities for girls to participate in sport and Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring children from underserved communities have equal opportunities to learn, play, and thrive.

The success at the CAF U-15 Qualifiers is about much more than football. It represents hope for every child growing up in the Mehta Camps and other vulnerable communities. It demonstrates that when young people are supported with quality education, positive mentorship, and access to sport, they can compete on national and continental stages while developing into confident, responsible citizens.

Balamu Community Outreach Program (BACOP) extends its heartfelt appreciation to its partners, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters whose unwavering commitment continues to make this life-changing work possible. Their investment enables BACOP to provide quality education, expand Football for Development initiatives, protect children’s rights, and create opportunities that transform lives every day.

Together, BACOP is doing more than developing talented footballers—it is building a generation of educated, resilient, and empowered young leaders who will make Uganda and Africa proud.
