Football is the main grassroots sport in the Mehta camps comprising internally displaced persons and refugees within the 20 Mehta sugar cane plantation camps. It is also such a strong uniting factor for male and female, young and old that BACOP chose to use Sport as a tool to attract individuals to our different community development interventions
Mehta Camps Primary Schools league
The Mehta camps primary schools league is a yearlong activity involving boys and girls aged 5-15 years in 12 primary schools, the league is played by 828 boys and girls once a week. During the league, we implement drug and substance abuse prevention and mental health prevention campaigns
Girls’ up for football tournament
This football tournament aims to increase girls’ participation, confidence building, and menstrual hygiene management. The game is played once a month among 200 girls aged 10- 15 years in the Mehta camps.
Our football training programs are designed to empower young people with the knowledge, attitude changes, and self-management skills necessary for making informed decisions. This initiative aims to reduce their involvement in maladaptive behaviors such as crime, gender-based violence, and drug and substance abuse. The weekend year long trainings are attended by 264 boys and girls aged 11-17 years with in the 20 Mehta sugar cane plantation camps
